With a new Head Coach, a returning All Star, and a new infielder, the Columbia Blowfish are ready to compete as they celebrate the Coastal Plain League's 16th season. In October 2011, the Columbia Blowfish baseball team welcomed a new Head Coach to the team! Brian Buscher, a 2003 All-American at South Carolina and former major leaguer with the Minnesota Twins, served as an undergraduate assistant coach for the 2011 season on the South Carolina baseball team. Buscher played on consecutive College World Series teams in 2002 and 2003 before beginning a seven-year stint in professional baseball highlighted by three years in Major League Baseball with the Twins.

The Columbia Blowfish Baseball Club (member Coastal Plain League) announced the 2012 Roster at the Pepsi Stadium Club during the 7th Annual Media Luncheon at Capital City Park. Head Coach Brian Buscher talked about returning players such as 2011 CPL All Star Zach Smith who will return for his second season at The Cap. In addition to Smith, USC infielder Erik Payne will join the 2012 Blowfish. Players from USC Aiken, USC Lancaster, USC Sumter, Fancis Marion and College of Charleston are providing players from within the State of South Carolina. Players will be joining the Blowfish from as far away as Creighton, Nebraska.

Check out the Columbia Blowfish Schedule to find a list of 2012 home games. Opening Night of the 2012 season is May 30, 2012 at 7:05PM. The first 500 fans will receive a Blowfish magnet schedule upon entrance to the stadium! Throughout the season, there will be special theme nights: On Guaranteed Win Nights, the Blowfish team must win or fans receive a ticket to the next home game. On select nights, kids can bring their ball and glove to play catch on the field with the Blowfish. On Bark in the Park night, dogs are allowed in free! You and your dog can be part of the pre-game Doggy Parade that takes place on the field before the game. With so many fun activities and special discounts, the Columbia Blowfish home games entertain people of all ages and interests. South Carolina's Miss Heart of the USA 2012

The South Carolina Miss Heart of the USA pageant will be held in Columbia, South Carolina in June 2012! Contestants can compete in divisions that range from Baby Miss (Ages 0-23 months) to Ms (ages 24 and up). Participants will enjoy building lasting friendships, fun competition, and the opportunity to give back to their community!

The Miss Heart of the USA Pageant strives to provide their contestants with the opportunity to have fun, establish lasting friendships, build confidence, and self-esteem; all while encouraging them to get involved with organizations in their community, that benefit those in need. Miss Heart of the USA Queens are involved with organizations like the Humane Society, the March of Dimes, Children's Hopsitals, etc.

The Miss Heart of the USA pageant began as a food drive for a local Rescue Mission and blossomed into a National Pageant Program. They have distributed over 750,000 non perishable food items to non profit organizations, collected toys for the Houston County Toys for Tots Progam and assisted a Women's Hope Center by collecting much needed baby items to be distributed to mothers in need.

The  Miss Heart of the USA Pageant Progam is truly unique. They focus on teaching girls the importance of giving back to their community and believe that you are never too young to start and it's never too late to get involved.

The Miss Heart of the USA National event will be held November 17, 2012 at International Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida. Palmetto Concert Band Memorial Day Concert

The palmetto concert band presents 'A Memorial Tribute' with James Copenhaver, William Moody and Scott Weiss, conductors. Musical selections include 'Children's March' by Grainger, 'Finale' from Symphony No. 5 by Shostakovich, 'American Civil War Fantasy' by Bilik, 'Armed forces Salute' and 'The Stars and Stripes Forever'. This FREE Memorial Day 2012 event will be held at Koger Center for the Arts. 

Boots and Badges Blood Drive
May 25 - 30, 2012
Looking for way to give back to the community this holiday weekend? Columbia area residents are invited to show their support for local firefighters and police officers and become a hero this summer by giving blood for patients in need. The Columbia Police Department and Columbia-Richland Fire Department are partnering with the American Red Cross South Carolina Blood Services Region for the 3rd annual Boots and Badges Blood Drive. The event will be held at the American Red Cross Columbia donation center on May 25, 26, 28, 29, and 30th. All donors at the Boots and Badges blood drive will receive a free t-shirt and have the opportunity to win prizes!
